Golds Gym Adaptive Reuse Project, Milwaukee, WI

PROJECT GOALS:

The project was an adaptive reuse of a 7-story high-rise built in 1959, with the greatest work consisting of a complete interior demolition and renovation, including asbestos abatement, new HVAC and mechanical and electrical improvements, elevator upgrades, energy efficiencies, life safety, and build-out of a five-floor fitness center to include a suspended saltwater lap pool and two-story basketball court.

The exterior was upgraded to include new roofing, decorative stone work, and new doors and windows. Renovation of the building also required structural upgrades to the mid-century wood-piling construction, including seismic retrofit and ADA-compliance measures. Floor plate and crossbeam modifications to accommodate the pool, valet, and basketball areas also required structural modifications and tie-ins to the adjacent buildings to redistribute loads.

My partners and I have developed several Gold’s Gym franchises throughout the Midwest and have found that Consolidated Construction is now our contractor of choice. I have been especially pleased with the management of our projects, which has made all the difference in successful execution. Our Hales Corners and Mt. Pleasant locations were managed by Paul and Jeff, true professionals who were organized, proactive and responsive throughout construction. I’m most impressed with how well the team handled adversity. Whenever challenges arose, there was no negativity. Not once. They would respond with a positive attitude and recommend solutions that had our best interest in mind, which was both refreshing and reassuring. I’d recommend Consolidated to anyone without hesitation.
