Make a Wish: Sophia’s Playhouse

Make a Wish: Sophia's Playhouse

Sophia Skrede, a 10-year-old from Kaukauna living with a rare liver disorder called Biliary Atresia, had a simple but deeply meaningful wish: a backyard playhouse where she could safely spend time outdoors with her loved ones. Due to her condition and the medications she takes, Sophia must avoid direct sunlight to protect her liver, making outdoor play challenging. Thanks to the combined efforts of Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, Consolidated Construction, and dedicated volunteers, Sophia’s wish was brought to life—an enchanting playhouse that allows her to enjoy the outdoors and just be a kid.

The project began in late 2022, when CCC’s architects designed the playhouse to match Sophia’s vision, complete with features like screened windows, concrete flooring for dust control, and charming details like flower boxes and a cupola. CCC’s team worked diligently to stretch the Make-A-Wish budget by securing donated materials and going beyond expectations to finish the interior. In April 2023, the team celebrated with a ribbon-cutting event, marking a joyful milestone for Sophia and the Kaukauna community. Sophia’s mother, Stephanie, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the incredible support, sharing how this space has brought joy, safety, and a renewed sense of normalcy to their lives.

For Consolidated Construction, this project embodies the company’s deeper commitment to the communities where it builds—beyond bricks and mortar. Team members take pride in creating lasting impact, whether through signature buildings across Northeast Wisconsin or meaningful acts of kindness like Sophia’s playhouse. As Stephanie shared on social media, the gratitude and joy felt by Sophia and her family is a powerful reminder of why CCC’s employee-driven giving efforts matter so much.
