The 2023 ABC of Wisconsin Projects of Distinction Excellence in Construction Awards judging has been completed, and The NEW Dermatology Group Clinic Renovation and Adaptive Reuse project executed by Consolidated Construction earned a Silver Award of Excellence
The interior of an existing office building was gutted to the bones and rebuilt to meet the Owners’ vision. Existing 1st and 2nd story rooms were removed to accommodate a soaring clerestory lobby. A grand staircase was added to connect the lobby and waiting room. Reclaimed lumber from a 19th century Jim Beam whiskey barrel storage building and vintage Wisconsin barns was converted into beams, columns, trusses, trim, accent walls, and flooring.
The building was expanded to accommodate exam and laboratory spaces. A solarium was safely excavated, reinforced, and constructed to bring natural light into the lower-level employee break room. Exterior brick was stained to achieve the desired look, and LP Smart Siding added to create a “vintage contemporary” appearance. Using merit shop principles, our concrete, steel, cabinetry, and carpentry professionals cross-trained so they could perform in all four divisions of work. Remarkably, 32% of the project was self-performed.
The ABC Excellence in Construction Awards ceremony will be held Jan. 18, 2024 at the Ingleside Hotel in Pewaukee, WI.
