After being shuttered for more than two years, a legendary gathering place in picturesque Green Lake, Wis. has come roaring back to life thanks to a multi-million-dollar makeover and the entrepreneurial vision of its new owners.
The historic Heidel House, which closed its doors in spring 2019, recently reopened as a completely remodeled hotel and conference center. The property has been redeveloped by Lighthouse Hotel Development Group and is owned by Green Lake Hotel Group, LLC. Consolidated Construction Co. Inc. was the general contractor on the project.
Heidel House was originally built in 1890 as a massive private residence, and featured 183 rooms, many of which offered stunning views of pristine Green Lake. In 1945, it was purchased by investors and converted to a resort that served local residents and guests until its closure.
In 2020, Lighthouse Hotel Development, with an investment group, Green Lake Hotel Group, LLC. purchased the property. Redevelopment began in October 2020 and included the complete remodeling of the hotel, including all new furniture, carpeting, paint, wallcoverings, parking accommodations, and landscaping.
“We pursued this project because it is such a gem on a great lake in a wonderful community,” said Don Klain, President of Lighthouse Hospitality Group. “We saw an opportunity to return this treasure to its glory days.”
The updated venue boasts:
- 115 guest rooms and suites
- 12,500 square feet of banquet and meeting space
- Oakwood Restaurant, featuring fine dining and an upscale bar experience
- Waves Pub and Grill, a more casual bar and dining setting
- Amenities like indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub, business center, exercise facility, game room, guest laundry, guest pantry and gift shop
- More than 900 feet of shoreline offering gorgeous views of Green Lake
- Docks for public use when boaters are on the lake and want to visit the hotel bars and restaurants
“Consolidated Construction is honored to be part of this historic renovation,” noted Gene Schleusner, Senior Vice President of Business Development. “We’ve been working with Lighthouse Development for more than a decade on hospitality projects in more than a dozen communities. It’s been a great experience to be part of the Green Lake community for the past year, and we’re looking forward to hosting employee, client, and family events at the Heidel House.”
The Heidel House Hotel and Conference Center is now part of the Choice Hotels Ascend Collection, which encompasses historic, boutique, and one-of-a-kind guest properties around the world. It is expected to employ an estimated 48 people.
