NDSC- Rave Review Photo

The North Dakota Safety Council (NDSC) is a private non-profit organization committed to promoting safe work practices throughout the state. Serving thousands each year, their training and education programs deserved a world-class facility where NDSC staff could reach more people with a new and expanded lineup of safety courses taught in a more memorable way.

Consolidated’s team first assisted NDSC in master planning, developing a phased approach to capital improvements that would meet their budget and fundraising requirements. The new NDSC campus includes a nearly 5,000 square foot hands-on training lab featuring a rescue tower and equipment to be utilized during high-level fall protection, confined space rescue, rope rescue and safe scaffold assembly courses. The facility also incorporates distance learning, a 30-person computer lab, equipment simulators and mobile training units.

“After a thorough vetting process, Consolidated was selected for our new training facility not only because they had the resources to design and build, but even more importantly because I completely trusted their commitment to the NDSC as a company and to our project. Knowing there would be some differences throughout the building process, I had complete faith Consolidated would always be fair with us and would do what it took to make the final product special. With the master plan we worked with Consolidated to develop, we now have a functional and one-of-a-kind training facility, and a plan for growth to adapt and excel in safety training for years to come. It fits our needs perfectly and we couldn’t more happier and more proud of our facility.”

Mott-RegentMott-Regent’s new elementary school replaced their 107-year-old building and shares spaces with the existing high school, including a new cafeteria, kitchen, common area, and library.  Consolidated was also hired to renovate their existing high school.  The renovation included a new ITV room and a special education room. The new campus also has centralized administration offices and a centralized mechanical room.

“I joined Mott‐Regent Public School District shortly after passage of our $8.7 million bond referendum. The communities of Mott and Regent had mixed opinions on the measure, so all eyes were on us as we embarked on our project. Consolidated’s team has been highly proactive in working with our school board, staff and parents to gain community support of the referendum, keep the project on schedule and under budget, and create a safe construction environment around an active school. They even went so far as to institute a safety protocol long before construction began in order to get students and faculty accustomed to the changes and establish safe habits. They’ve also been creative in finding ways to reduce costs with subcontractor negotiations and volunteer labor. Working directly with Consolidated, my school board and I have a clear understanding of current activities and project status, thanks to regular reports and communication that have us all in synchronicity. Consolidated’s thoughtful leadership on this project has been important to reassuring our community that we’re handling this great responsibility properly and are making the most of this extraordinary opportunity.”

Sleep Inn MainStay RochesterThis 81-room, 45,000 square foot hotel in Rochester, Minnesota is the second of its kind: half a MainStay Suites and the other half a Sleep Inn.  The concept joins two brands in one building to maximize cost efficiency in construction and operations. It also offers amenities of both brands to guests, allowing the hotel to meet the needs of nearly any travel occasion.

“This is my fifth new hotel build in many years. The Sleep Inn/MainStay combo was a new concept for Choice and myself. Right from the beginning, I received lots of help from the team at Consolidated. They knew it was going to be more complex than a typical hotel build, unifying the two brands together into one building. It wasn’t easy. They navigated a rigorous permitting and inspection process that helped keep the project moving forward and stay on budget. When it was all said and done, I’d describe this project as one of my best building experiences.

Dairyland ElectricUnsure whether it would be more prudent to renovate or build new, Consolidated Construction assisted Dairyland Electrical Industries in weighing their options and analyzing associated costs and benefits. Ultimately, Dairyland decided to build a new 11,350 square foot production facility in Pound, Wisconsin to complement and expand their existing operations.

“Dairyland Electrical Industries had a very positive experience with the team at Consolidated with the construction of our new manufacturing facility. The Consolidated team is outright friendly, engaging and highly professional. Even before we discussed design and construction, we found their expertise in site selection and municipal relations to be invaluable. When it came time for construction, the team did not disappoint. Communication, clarity and performance were excellent. I’d hire them on to our team if I could!”

Dane ManufacturingDane Manufacturing first hired Consolidated Construction to design and build an addition and associated renovations to its existing manufacturing facility in Dane, Wisconsin. Construction quality was especially important to Dane, as they had experienced many issues with previous work by other contractors. Consolidated’s self-perform capabilities in concrete and steel erection fit the bill. Cost, schedule and quality can all be held to the highest standards when work is completed by our in-house crews.

“When I was looking for a new building partner, I knew I wanted a company that understood my desire for superior quality. It’s a principle that drives my own company, but I wasn’t finding that in other contractors. Consolidated’s team not only gave me a new addition within the budget and schedule that I needed, they paid special attention to materials and quality workmanship. Now I’m confident my building will withstand the heavy load requirements of our operations and last for decades, and Consolidated will still be here with us.”

_P7A2033Werner Electric Supply chose Consolidated Construction to complete the design/ build process and manage all aspects of the construction of the new 64,648 square foot office building and 197,417 square foot RDC.

Not only did the new facility grow in size from Werner Electric Supply’s previous headquarters, it added additional infrastructure and technological advancements to help the company run more efficiently and better serve its customers.

“The Werner team quickly developed a high level of confidence in Consolidated’s in-house design capability. Consolidated listened carefully to our needs and operational plan, and then developed a conceptual design that hit the mark. Werner felt highly engaged in the design development process. We also appreciate Consolidated’s leadership and direction in obtaining building approvals and permits.

Thanks to the Consolidated team’s fastidious pre-construction planning, construction activities were carried out quickly and efficiently. This resulted in an on-time completion date and a final construction cost under budget. Even Werner’s special request to use ten different electrical subcontractors was met with professional accommodation. We were able to utilize many of our customer resources on the project, and there were no issues between subcontractors. Everyone reported that the project ran smoothly.”

SundanSundancece Apartments is a 108-unit, 165,000 square foot complex in Bismarck, North Dakota. Featuring upscale features and amenities suitable for young professionals and families, it answers the demand for those flocking to the area in search of new opportunities. That same demand for housing, however, and the shortage of skilled craftsmen presented new challenges for the project team to overcome.  Tenacity and ingenuity won out, however, and the team delivered the project on time, and with a 9% reduction in cost thanks to value engineering and steadfast negotiation.

“Sundance was Timberland’s first new construction multi-family project in North Dakota so planning and execution was of utmost importance. Given the tight labor market and rising cost of materials in Western North Dakota, getting the project within budget was a daunting task. From the beginning, Consolidated approached the project budget with tenacity and attention to detail that was second to none. Your ability to work with us and the design team to successfully suggest and incorporate money saving, value engineering ideas – while not compromising the overall quality of the product – was a testament to the experience and knowledge your team brings to the table.”

IMG_5826-2The oil boom in North Dakota increased the need for several refineries in the area.  Consolidated Construction provided the design and construction of six major auxiliary buildings, including administration, laboratory, maintenance, fire fighting, electrical utilities and wastewater treatment for the 318-acre Dakota Prairie Refinery campus.

“Consolidated took on the challenge of this fast pace and aggressive schedule project head on, and successfully completed the buildings within the time frame we needed them to allow a timely turnover to the owner. Throughout the development and design stages, Consolidated led the way to provide the owners with multiple layouts and options to aid in cost effective solutions to meet the quality standards and budgets of the project. Consolidated took the burden of acquiring all the building permits and made sure that all local and other codes were met or exceeded which helped us focus on other portions of the project.”

Conveniently located less than 30 minutes from Mouth Rushmore, the Cambria and MainSuites Suites are located in Rapid City, South Dakota.  These apartment-like suites offer families and business guests many up-scale amenities that make them feel at home.

“In our area of strong tourist seasonality it’s critical that hotel projects come in on time and on budget. Consolidated exceeded our expectations not once, but on two separate occasions, bringing both the Cambria Suites and MainStay Suites of Rapid City to successful conclusions with on-time grand openings. I was especially pleased with the quality, fit and finish of our projects, and the project management team was second to none. We communicated regularly and candidly, which led us through challenges swiftly and kept each project on target. The highest praise a company can receive from its customers is the referral of friends. I’ve referred my friends with confidence to Consolidated, and will continue to do so in the future.

We jumped in immediately with a complex renovation and addition project for our property in Decorah and were pleased with the level of professionalism we received. Our project team was knowledgeable and self‐sufficient, and completed the project on time, as promised, with minimal disruption to our guests and staff.”
