The Community of Northwood has made an amazing recovery from the devastation left by an EF4 tornado in 2007. Rebuilding their school in time for the start of classes in Fall, 2008 was critical to the community. Enrollment has exceeded expectations, with more students attending now than initially projected in 2007. As a result, space for the fine arts and community functions needed to be addressed, as those spaces were cut in favor of classroom capacity in 2008.
Consolidated was retained to provide cost estimates for the proposed referendum project, and support referendum communications. Our experience with performing arts facilities helped the community understand how important the arts are for student development. Consolidated’s infographics and communication pieces also supported the referendum committee, and achieved referendum success with more than 70% of the patrons voting yes.
This project features an elementary classroom addition, additional Special Needs and Title 1 classrooms, a 400-seat auditorium designed for student and community use, and select improvements to the music classroom. A ground source heating system serves this facility, and will be extended into the new spaces. Site improvements include additional parking, and improved facility access.
