Oakes Public School and City Library, Oakes, ND

PROJECT GOALS:

Oakes Public School Strategic Facility Plan called for improved safety and security, public access and perception, and an improved community library. The facility’s design needed to be compatible with their existing historical High School, and completed in time for National Reading Awareness Month in March.

When it became apparent that costs would exceed the School District’s budget, Consolidated worked with the Architect to reduce costs by more than $150,000. Bid results resulted in further savings, and the project was completed under budget. In addition, Consolidated provided the School District with a 10-year Capital Maintenance Plan for their use in budgeting future capital improvements.

Consolidated completed the entire project–including the community library–in time to celebrate and hold their community open house in conjunction with National Reading Awareness Month.

Consolidated was an excellent choice for our district administrative office and library expansion. Their project team was insightful and down to earth and they really understood the importance of local involvement. Although Oakes is located in a remote area, over 50% of the work was performed by subcontractors within a 75‐mile radius of our community. That commitment to our local economy, while still meeting an aggressive schedule and budget, made the project a success for our district and Oakes residents. I recommend Consolidated highly to other districts seeking concerned and responsible leadership of their construction projects.
