10/2017 New GLO Hotel to go up at Moon Meadows and U.S. 16

Construction will begin soon on a new 79-room hotel on the northeast corner of Moon Meadows Road and U.S. Highway 16 south of Rapid City. It will be South Dakota’s first GLō Hotel by Best Western International.

“GLō is an energetic new-construction, boutique hotel brand that’s breaking the suburban cookie-cutter hotel mold,” according to the Best Western website. The exterior design features a contemporary look and LED lighting, including a feature that Best Western describes as a glowing blue blade.”

The contemporary design continues to the interior lobby, where visitors will find large windows and custom, built-in furniture. Only a handful of GLō hotels are currently in operation.

Swift Hospitality Group, based in Freeport, IL, is the developer. Consolidated Construction Co.’s Rapid City office will build the new hotel. CCC’s Phil Hawki and Chad Redder will be the project team.

It is the third Black Hills hotel project in five years for the Consolidated-Swift project team. The Cambria Suites hotel was completed in 2012 and the adjacent MainStay Suites hotel was completed in 2013.

The Rapid City Planning Commission approved the project recently. Plans call for construction of the 43,000-square-foot project to begin this fall, and the hotel is expected to open before Memorial Day weekend, 2018.

In addition to being the first GLō Hotel in the region, the new property is also among the first new hospitality properties in the fast-growing Highway 16 corridor south of Catron Boulevard.
